Once a week, we work with classes of students at sites across Los Angeles. Our evolving curriculum focuses on the basics of storytelling and writing, and we do our best to keep our lessons engaging by incorporating fun games and activities. At the end of each year, we publish the students’ best work into an anthology for each class, and bring them to UCLA for a tour of the campus. This project gives students an opportunity to share their work with their classmates and engage with the volunteers they worked with throughout the year.

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please email us for more information.

Our sites for 2023-4 are listed below and held at the following times:

Canoga Park Middle School | 2:00-3:00 PM
John R. Wooden High School | Wednesdays, 11:30-1:00 PM
Mount Gleason Middle School | Fridays, 2:15-3:10 PM
Fairburn Avenue Elementary School | Fridays, 1:00-2:00 PM

In addition to our weekly programming, we collaborate with fellow UCLA service organizations to bring creative writing to their service recipients with our standalone workshops. If you are interested in collaborating with the Writer’s Den, get in touch with us at thewritersden@ucla.edu!
